Arsenal v Bayern Munich: Trossard earns Gunners draw

Kane penalty cancelled out as visitors take advantage of Saka red card

Substitute Trossard rescues point for hosts in Champions League quarter-final first leg

Arsenal and Bayern Munich played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at the Emirates on Tuesday.

Bukayo Saka gave the Gunners an early lead, but Serge Gnabry and a Harry Kane penalty overturned the deficit before the break.

Bayern took control of the game after the interval and looked set to take a healthy advantage into the second leg, but substitute Gabriel Jesus set up Leandro Trossard to equalize with just over 15 minutes remaining.

The draw leaves the tie finely poised heading into the second leg in Munich next week.

Arsenal made a positive start to the game and deservedly took the lead in the 10th minute. Saka picked up the ball on the left-hand side of the box and drove into the Bayern area before firing a low shot past Sven Ulreich.

However, Bayern responded well to going behind and were level just six minutes later. Kingsley Coman got down the right-hand side and crossed for Gnabry, who fired home from close range.

Bayern continued to press for a second goal and were unlucky not to take the lead in the 25th minute when Leon Goretzka's header hit the post.

Arsenal were dealt a blow in the 36th minute when Saka was sent off for a second bookable offence. The England international was adjudged to have fouled Gnabry on the edge of the box and referee Ivan Kruzliak showed him a straight red card.

Bayern took full advantage of their numerical advantage and took the lead in the 43rd minute. Coman was again the provider, crossing for Kane to head home from close range.

The visitors continued to dominate after the break and could have extended their lead on several occasions. However, Ulreich made a number of fine saves to keep Arsenal in the game.

The Gunners eventually found an equalizer in the 75th minute. Jesus, who had come on for Saka at half-time, crossed for Trossard, who fired home from close range.

The draw leaves the tie finely poised heading into the second leg in Munich next week. Bayern will be confident of progressing to the semi-finals, but Arsenal will take heart from their performance in the second half.
